Blueprint Reading and Estimating Level 1

Instruction is offered in basic estimating skills, together with an overview to the understanding of drawings, contracts and tendering procedures. Introduction of understanding drawings and a review of documents related to drawings. Review of calculations for areas and volumes and how these relate to construction drawings. Discussions on unfiorm construction index. Understandin foundations and foolting drawings. Understanding plans, section, and details with sample plans, models and other visual aids. Discussions and illustrations of materials such as, for example, masonry, concrete, roofing etc. Practice taking off simple quantities. Review of types of construction terminology. This course conforms to CCA Gold Seal standards. There is a written exam at the end of the course and passing students will receive a certificate, suitable for framing. All course material supplied.

Professor Clint Kissoon is a past president of both the Ontario and the Canadian Institutes of Quantity Surveyors, and is currently Acting Chair of Architectural Studies & Construction Management and Trades at George Brown College. He has also written two books: Cost Control for Contractors, and Estimating in Building Construction.
