 Organizational Structure of TCIC

The Construction Institute of Canada is a non-profit education and professional development institute; it is based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. TCIC is managed on a day-to-day basis by Roxanne Drisdelle and Mary Thorburn, together with a host of others on a part-time basis.

The structure of the TCIC is made up of primarily industry volunteers and receives both administrative and financial support from the Construction Industry through the Toronto Construction Association.

Roles and Responsibilities of the TCIC Structure:

Chancellor
This is a five year honorary appointment to promote TCIC to the public at large.

Vice Chancellor and President of The Construction Institute of Canada

A position appointed by TCIC to represent and promote the Institute at industry, social, and other related events. The Vice Chancellor sits on the Toronto Construction Association’s (TCA) Board of Directors.

Assistant Vice President
A full time position appointed by TCIC to oversee the administrative functions of the Institute.

Director of Education
A full time position appointed by TCIC to oversee the continued professional development of the Institute members and individuals striving to become members.

Board of Regents
Comprised of TCIC elected volunteers that sit on the Professional Development and Accreditation committees; the Chairs from Each committee sit on the Toronto Construction Association’s (TCA) Board of Directors and report to the said board.

Also included on the Board of Regents are representatives of the Ontario General Contractors Association (OCGA) and the Hamilton-Halton Construction Association (HHCA).

The Accreditation Committee
Oversees, develops and monitors all aspects of the accreditation process with the “Ladder of Opportunity”.

This committee reviews all appeals concerning the advancement within the “Ladder of Opportunity” if requested by a candidate.

This committee deals with all matters requiring disciplinary action connected with a member/candidate’s advancement within the “Ladder of Opportunity.”

The Admissions Panel
A sub group of the Accreditation Committee consisting of 4 representatives plus 1 TCIC staff member; its responsibilities include:
  • Review and approve all “Ladder of Opportunity” applications.
  • Determine and approve advance standing.
  • Offer advice/direction in terms of programmes/courses associated with the “Ladder of Opportunity.”
  • Monitor processes and candidates as they progress through the “Ladder of Opportunity.”
The Professional Development Committee
Oversees the design and development of all seminars, workshops, courses and programmes of TCIC; ensuring that they are sound pedagogically and meet the needs of the construction industry.

This committee assigns all instructors and ensures that quality control is monitored in the delivery of said seminars, workshops, courses and programmes.

This committee will monitor all academic progress of all students not in the accreditation stream.
