| | What is Accreditation?
One of the principles that TCIC is founded upon are the “Four Pillars” -- Education, Experience, Service and Conduct, these are embedded in the “Ladder of Opportunity” that a member must follow in order to advance within the Institute. Eligibility
TCIC philosophy from the outset was to create an Institute that encompassed the “whole” of the Construction Industry including in search of excellence and who share a sense of urgency concerning professional competence. Individuals who maybe members of other associations, whether they are from Canada or elsewhere are welcome, provided they are in some way connected with the construction industry.
Qualify for Membership
Applications are accepted from industry practitioners, students included, with often dramatically different educational and work experience histories. Accordingly, applicants can qualify for higher levels of membership provided they can document work experience and/or academic equivalency. Decisions respecting appropriate levels of membership are the sole jurisdiction of the TCIC Accreditation Committee, which is comprised of leading construction industry executives.
Entry level applicants can qualify for higher levels of membership by participating in TCIC’s Accreditation Program which combines industry specific course material, with appropriate standards for conduct, service and work experience.
On-going Membership
In its capacity as a qualifying body for industry practitioners, and in the interest of perpetrating its role in construction industry self-regulation, TCIC maintains rigorous high standards; this is particularly challenging in an industry characterized by intense competition, narrow margins, delayed cash flow, higher lender participation, performance specifications, changing legislation, strict workplace safety and environmental controls, a growing underground economy, and lengthy and complicated supplementary general conditions. For that reason, compulsory adherence to the highest possible professionalism and ethical standards is mandatory.
On the positive side, provided membership criteria are strictly enforced, buyers of construction services look to active TCIC members with a restored confidence.
TCIC “Ladder of Opportunity” identifies the various levels of membership and the applicant’s commitment to continued professional development through education and relevant construction industry experience. The approach TCIC has taken regarding the advancement within the institute is similar to that of other associations.
